From 13 October 2026, every Victorian rental agreement needs a two-yearly electrical safety check — including older tenancies previously exempt. If the last check is unknown, arrange one now.

About Ballarat Electrical Co

We work on Ballarat's housing as it actually is - a lot of it old, much of it altered more than once, and a fair amount of it carrying wiring that was installed to a standard nobody uses any more. That shapes how we quote. A repeat-tripping circuit in a pre-1960s weatherboard is a different problem to the same symptom in a new build out at Lucas, and pricing them the same way does nobody any favours.

The work splits roughly four ways. There is fault finding, which is most of the urgent calls. There is compliance - rental safety checks, switchboard upgrades on boards that no longer meet the requirements for a rented property. There is planned work: added circuits, EV chargers, rewires staged over time where doing the whole house at once is out of reach. And there is commercial and industrial work - three-phase distribution, main switchboard and DB work, fitouts and machine connections, plus the test and tag, emergency lighting and RCD testing a workplace has to keep current.

What ties it together is testing before deciding. Insulation resistance testing on a circuit, tripping an RCD under load, opening a board before pricing the upgrade. It is slower than quoting off a build date and a look at the meter box, and it is the reason our quotes tend to hold.

What does Ballarat Electrical Co do?

Ballarat Electrical Co handles electrical work for homes and properties across Ballarat, Victoria. We assess the job on site, explain what we find in plain terms, and set out a clear scope and quote before any work is agreed.

What happens after I get in touch?

You tell us what you have noticed and where the property is. We arrange a look at the job, discuss the practical options and provide a written quote covering the work involved. There is no charge for the quote and no obligation to proceed.

How do you price the work?

Pricing follows the scope — the extent of the work, access around the property, site conditions and the materials required. We would rather see the job than guess from a photo, because a number given without those details tends to change later, and that helps nobody.

Which areas do you cover?

We work throughout Ballarat and the surrounding towns. If you are not sure whether your address falls inside the service area, send it through and we will tell you straight away.
